How Often Should A Vehicle’s Brakes Be Tested Using A Brake Test Machine?

Brakes are one of the most important aspects of any vehicle, regular tests need to be performed regularly by a brake test machine. The owner of the car must take these checks seriously to ensure safety for those using the car and for the longevity of the vehicle.

The braking system is surprisingly more complicated than it appears. The system consists of many different parts which need to be inspected and replaced often.

The 6 Month Rule

The general rule of thumb is that you should have your brakes checked every six months. Most people will have their brake system checked when they receive a car maintenance service or when they have their wheels aligned. Every six months is a safe time frame, however if you drive more than an average person it is recommended to have your vehicle’s brakes checked more frequently.

It is also important that you keep an eye and ear out for the warning signs that tell you that you should have your brakes checked by an expert with a brake testing machine.

The Warning Signs

If you notice any of the following warning signs, it would be best to have your brakes checked immediately.

  • Reduced responsiveness – Reduced responsiveness is when your brakes are not as quick or responsive as they used to be, and you have to apply more pressure to the brakes.
  • Pulling – Pulling happens when your vehicle pulls to one side as you apply pressure to the brakes. This can be exceptionally dangerous and usually deteriorates quickly.
  • Vibration – A sure sign that something may be wrong with your brakes is if you experience vibration on the steering wheel when braking. This is often caused by having to brake down very steep hills constantly.
  • Loud Noises – Loud noises such as squeaking, grinding, growling and creaking when you brake are sure indicators that something may be wrong with your brake system.
